What is Digital Marketing exactly?

We know that marketing consists of many different elements – offline and digital / online.

Offline elements include such things as T.V. and Radio, together with print advertising methods being Magazines, Newspapers, Leaflets and many more. But what are the elements that make up Digital Marketing?

Let’s look at it a bit more closely. If we think about it for some time we see that Digital Marketing comprises a number of different channels. There’s Online Marketing, Mobile Marketing and eMedia Marketing. But nowadays we can also say that Television and Radio are also forms of Digital Marketing. Why, well simply because T.V. and Radio are now comprised of Digital elements to them, thus making them part of a Digital Marketing Component as well. So lets have a look at each of these in a bit more detail:

Online Marketing

Online Marketing comprises different elements too. There’s Website Development and Optimisation, Search Engine Optimisation, Video Search Optimisation, Social Media Optimisation, Blogs, Online Display Ads, Email Marketing and QR Codes. This can all be pretty confusing unless you’re a Digital Marketer and you deal with these terms every day. They’re basically all the elements on the internet that one can use to market with.

Mobile Marketing

Mobile Marketing is marketing with the use of mobile devices, that can be cell phones, tablets or PDA’S. Mobile Marketing consists of using Messaging – SMS (Short Message Service) or MMS (MultiMedia Messaging Service), Mobile Internet, Mobile Apps and App Advertising.

eMedia Marketing

eMedia Marketing consists of using Digital Billboards, and taking audio, video and all content that may be delivered via an electronic device.

Then we also have  Radio and T.V. Marketing that are done through digital mediums, such as T.V. ads that are done through Video Channels on the internet (YouTube) and Podcasts (Internet Radio).

So, with a bit more understanding now of what comprises Digital Marketing we can now look at some of the trends, the social technologies and various other platforms that people and companies are using, via Digital Marketing Methods, to increase their brand awareness on the internet, sell more products or just to get to speak to more of their customers.
